چکیده

The characterization of cardio-protective lipid bioactives from cyanobacteria, such as Spirulina spp., has rarely been investigated. In this study, neutral lipids, glycolipids, and phospholipids Irish marine cyanobacterium subsalsa, were tested for anti-inflammatory antithrombotic activities in vitro human platelets. Glycolipids inhibited strongly platelet aggregation induced by platelet-activating factor (PAF) or thrombin, with IC50 (half maximal inhibitory concentration) values ranging ?60–110 µg polar lipids. characterisation the glycolipids revealed presence sulfoquinovosyl diacylglycerols (SQDG), monogalactosylodiglycerides (MGDG) glycosphingolipids (cerebrosides ceramides). Phospholipids contained mostly bioactive phosphatidylcholines (PC) phosphatidylethanolamines (PE) molecules as, diacyl-PC, diacyl-PE, alkyl-acyl PC, alkyl-acyl-PE, well considerable amounts phosphatidylglycerols (PG), phosphatidylinositols (PI), phosphatidylserines (PS), phosphatidic acids (PA). total properties makes subsalsa a candidate sustainable source health supplements cardiovascular benefits.

Nitro-fatty acids: novel anti-inflammatory lipid mediators

Nitro-fatty acids are formed and detected in human plasma, cell membranes, and tissue, modulating metabolic as well as inflammatory signaling pathways. Here we discuss the mechanisms of nitro-fatty acid formation as well as their key chemical and biochemical properties. The electrophilic properties of nitro-fatty acids to activate anti-inflammatory signaling pathways are discussed in detail. A ...

Unsaturated fatty acids.

There is good scientific evidence that dietary fatty acid composition is involved in the aetiology of many diseases. Increasing the supply of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) may reduce the risk of CHD. Several scientific organizations (for example, see Department of Health, 1991, 1994; British Nutrition Foundation, 1992; Scientific Committee for Food, 1993; Food and Agriculture Organizat...

Interaction of unsaturated fatty acids with anti-oestrogen-binding sites.

Specific high-affinity binding sites for non-steroidal anti-oestrogens such as tamoxifen have been identified in many animal and human tissues. The function of these binding sites and the nature of their endogenous ligands are currently unknown. Our laboratory has previously reported that unsaturated fatty acids at micromolar concentrations inhibited [3H]tamoxifen binding to the anti-oestrogen-...
